2.6 Initial Visibility

• By default, initial global state is OVERVIEW (show only top-level headlines)
  • C-u C-u <TAB> switch to startup visibility state as determined by org-startup-folder variable and VISIBILITY properties.
  • org-cycle-global-at-bob set to ‘t’, can use <TAB> to cycle when point is on the first line
• When org-agenda-inihibit-startup is non-‘nil’, Org does not honor the default visibility state when opening a file for the agenda (to speed things up). It is by default set to ‘nil’.
• configure with org-startup-folded, or on a per-file basis with ‘#+STARTUP:’, or per-item basis with ‘VISIBILITY’ property.

  Possible values for the first two are:

  • overview|fold
  • content|
  • showall|nofold
  • showeverything
• org startup options on a per-file basis chosen by ‘#+STARTUP:’ option.
• Visibility property for individual entries;

  ‘#+VISIBILITY: folded | children | content | all’

• org-catch-invisible-edits can be used to help prevent unintended edits;
