The "compilation" buffer uses a major mode called Compilation mode. This mode turns each error message in the buffer into a hyperlink; you can move point to it and type <RET> to visit "locus" of the error message in a separate window.
Variable allowing Emacs to automatically jump to the first error message that appears in the compilation buffer (when set to non-‘nil’).
